Moisturizers

Your face is in constant exposure to air and pollutants which rob your skin of its moisture. For decades, petroleum jelly has been used as an inexpensive moisturizer. It seals in the moisture, however, it is greasy and thick.

Moisturizers with humectants and emollients hydrate the skin without making it greasy. Humectants help in retaining the moisture while emollients soothe and soften your skin. Together, they temporarily minimize the fine lines around your eyes or the neck.

A lot of skincare products both moisturize and provide anti-aging easiness, dermatologist Doris Day, MD, says.

  • Check for creams that have glycerin and hyaluronic acid, which plump the skin temporarily, minimizing the fine lines and wrinkles.

Exfoliating Scrubs and Lotions

It’s important for ingredients in moisturizers and serums to get through the skin’s outermost layer to work most efficiently. Using an exfoliator twice a week will help in removing dead skin cells, thereby allowing the creams to penetrate. This will make your face appear smooth and less blotchy. Some cleansers and exfoliators are gentle enough that it can be used every day.

The effective and gentle exfoliator, the product will contain lactic acid, glycolic acid, salicylic acid, or malic acid.

Antioxidant Creams

Most creams contain antioxidants, which prevents free radicals from damaging your skin cells. Some creams even claim to diminish sallowness, wrinkles, and other signs of sun damage. However, only a few scientific studies have proved that they really work as they claim.

You can also try antioxidant face creams, that contain niacinamide, which is both an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory, such as coffee berry extract, antioxidants coenzyme Q10, and soy extract. According to Dermatologist Robin Ashinoff, MD, these ingredients can help in reducing the signs of sun damage.

Sun Protection

About 80% of visible skin aging are caused by exposure to U.V. light. Preventing sun damage is very important. A lot of facial creams and moisturizers contain broad-spectrum sunscreens that filter UVA and UVB rays. The American Academy of Dermatology recommends using at least SPF 30 every day. Limit your time in the sun, between 10 am and 2 p.m., and wear protective full-arm clothing, and a wide-brimmed hat, that can also help in protecting your skin from sun damage.
